Heilbronn / Castle Road
Heilbronn is situated on one of the oldest and most famous holiday routes in Germany - the Castle Road (Burgenstraße). It is not only a popular starting point for excursions along the route but also home to the organisation’s branch office.
The 1,000 km holiday route presents over 70 castles and palaces, historical cities and wonderful countryside between Mannheim and Prague.
For example, there is the Kurfürst
residence on the Mannheim
palatinate, the famous Heidelberg
Castle, the knight’s castles in the
Neckar River valley such as the Burg
Guttenberg and the Götzenburg, the
romantic area around Heilbronn,
medieval towns like Schwäbisch Hall,
Langenburg or Rothenburg o. d. T.,
the margravial Ansbach or the proud
Dürer City of Nuremberg.
The route continues through the enchanting Franconian Switzerland with its river valleys, mills and castles to Bamberg and Coburg and over the forts of Kronach and Kulmbach to Bayreuth. The margrave city with its numerous magnificent
buildings from the Baroque period is a good transition to the visual splendour of the
Bohemian spas, which line the route in the golden city of Prague just like the
palaces and castles.
The route can be explored by car,
bicycle, bus or ship. Information on
all types of transport is available
from the Castle Road office.
You can also walk around the entire
route. Special guidebooks describe
the route in great detail with text
These can be purchased from the Castle Road office, in the Heilbronn Tourist Information Office and from numerous associations.
