Heilbronn / Experience by Bike
Experience by Bike
Several national cycle touring routes intersect in Heilbronn making the city an ideal starting or stopping point for a perfect cycle touring holiday.
The routes to the city take you through unspoilt nature, and once you have arrived in the city, 230 kilometres of signposted cycle paths make it easy for you to find your way.
In order to make cycling more attractive in Heilbronn, the city’s first cycling road has been opened. Starting at Halbmondstraße, it takes cyclists along Badstraße, all the way to where it intersects with Theresienstraße. From one kerb to the other, this stretch of road - roughly one kilometre in length - is now reserved for the exclusive use of cyclists.
Next to using cyclist-friendly 30 kph speed limit zones, cycle paths, strips and lanes, cyclists may also explore the city centre’s pedestrian areas by bike. Cyclists will find plenty of parking space for their bikes in the city centre and the pedestrian areas in particular (for some 900 bikes in total).
The cycling highlight of the year is the popular "Natürlich Mobil" (or "Naturally Mobile") day, held each June. The B27 federal road is closed to motor traffic between Heilbronn and Mosbach on that day, giving cyclists and inline skaters the opportunity to travel between the cities without leaving a carbon footprint. The City and District of Heilbronn jointly organise this event together with the AOK Heilbronn-Franken public health insurance company, with Heilbronn Marketing GmbH co-ordinating all efforts.
The "Raderlebnis Heilbronn" leaflet (only in German) is available free of charge from the Tourist Information Centre.
