The Green City

Heilbronn / The Green City

The Green City

There are many ways to enjoy nature, both around the city and in the city itself. Vineyards and the municipal forest form a green belt around the city, parks serve as oases of quiet and relaxation, tree-lined boulevards support the ecological balance – some 50,000 trees within the city limits turn Heilbronn into a true “green city“. One proud highlight was winning the gold medal at the “Entente Florale 2000“, the European floral decoration competition.

If you want to take a stroll through green spaces near the city centre, there is the promenade along the Old Neckar River, the municipal gardens surrounding the Harmonie Concert and Congress Centre as well as the Old Cemetery, a cultural and natural monument.

You can also enjoy the beautiful to be found in
Heilbronn and stop for an afternoon of
recreational relaxation at the generously laid-out parks offering valuable greenbelt recreation areas to the city‘s inhabitants, such as Wertwiesenpark, situated in Sontheim, where the State Horticultural Show took place in 1985, or the Böckingen’s Ziegeleipark with its recreated lake.
To the east of the city, you may find both Pfühlpark and Lake Trappensee, on which a romantic lake palace is situated, Köpfertal valley including the Köpferbrunnen well, and Waldheide, a renaturalized former military compound.
The botanical orchard situated at the foot of Wartberg Hill has become a gardening jewel where lovingly restored garden pavilions and fragrant flowers are awaiting the visitor.

The upcoming years will pose a particular challenge for Heilbronn – the city has, until the opening of the Federal Horicultural Show in April 2019, to see to the new district called Neckarbogen and the extension of the experimenta learning and adventure centre. These are key projects for the future which must now be further developed and imbued with life.
