Kleist-Archiv Sembder

Heilbronn / Kathy of Heilbronn / Kleist-Archiv Sembder

Kleist-Archiv Sembder

The Sembdner Kleist Archive, an internationally renowned institution dedicated to the life and work of poet Heinrich von Kleist and run by the City of Heilbronn, has dealt with various facets of Kleist’s great historic knight play since its foundation.

The range of the archive’s activities
covers basically everything from
scientific papers to postcards
and leaflets of a popular scientific
nature, from exhibitions to lectures,
public readings, publications in books
and magazines (including reprints of
historic Kathy editions and secondary
literature), movie screenings, audio
book productions (podcasts), and
research into local history.
Furthermore, the archive also
documents past and current “Kathy”
stagings and the reception of Kathy
in films, music and contemporary
literature as well as in the fine arts.
One particular field of interest for the
archive is the investigation into the
Heilbronn history of Kathy-related
folk tradition.

The first port of call for everyone interested in Kathy has been the website run by the Sembdner Kleist Archive, www.das-käthchen-von-heilbronn.de, where a comprehensive Kathy database is available. Leaflets on the contents of Kleist’s play, its local and national “theatre career” and on the archive’s publications are available free of charge on request.
